Bienvenido a Jardín de Mariposas School! We are a Spanish immersion school located in beautiful Los Altos Hills that specializes in science, art and nature exploration. Our extensive campus ignites our students' curiosity to explore and create in our outdoor classrooms and expansive educational garden. Our teachers provide engaging activities and model a respectful, growth mindset for children so they can develop social skills and a positive sense of self, naturally. Exposure to languages and cultures provides a diverse base on which to build compassion and awareness of our world. Jardín de Mariposas is an organic environment where children learn to respect and appreciate nature and enjoy local CSA or JDM grown produce. Our community is our family and during this time we have implemented COVID protocols to keep us all as safe as possible. We spend 75% of the day outdoors in our playground, outdoor classroom and exploring the beautiful Beth Am Campus.Learn More
In 2020 JDM expanded our vegetable garden and created an 1800sq foot garden classroom for our community. The garden now includes an outdoor stage, grape covered house for gathering, story tree, chalkboard wall and over 25 fruit trees and vines. We are committed to an environmental education program for our students in hopes that they will be the future advocates for our planet. Children are caretakers of our garden, planting, weeding, watering and harvesting throughout the year.
We love music at the Jardín and understand its ability to reach the soul of all of our students. It is often the first way that children speak Spanish is through singing one of the many songs we teach. Each day teachers lead the children in song in circle time and on the playground but we also have a professional music teacher who gives each program a weekly specialized class in music theory and movement. This year we are offering Caregiver & Me Spanish classes for 6 months to 3 years old on Friday mornings. Jardín de Mariposas has created many playlists that we share with our families throughout the year!
Caring for animals is an integral part of our nature and social/emotional education. Our students connect and care for our rabbit, hen and bearded dragon each day, feeding and petting them. They observe their behavior, bring food from home to share, care for them and learn about their habitat.
