Our Educational Philosophy

At Jardín de Mariposas School, we believe education is a natural process that unfolds through play, exploration, relationships, and hands-on experiences. We strive to create a caring, joyful environment where children and teachers feel inspired to learn, create, and discover without inhibition or hesitation.

Our philosophy is grounded in four pillars:

    We believe children grow through meaningful relationships and interactions with others. Friendship, empathy, cooperation, and social development are nurtured through play, trial and error, and the modeling of caring relationships. We believe family and culture are essential parts of a child’s life and celebrate each family’s traditions, experiences, and unique voice as an important part of our school community.

  • Creativity

    We believe children need opportunities to imagine, create, sing, dance, experiment, and express themselves freely. Our process-based art and science experiences allow children to create, explore, and discover through intrinsic motivation and their natural desire to understand the world around them.

  • Curiosity

    We believe the environment should invite children to explore, wonder, question, and discover. Our garden classroom, park days, field trips, science experiences, and hands-on learning provide opportunities for children to investigate their interests and learn through real experiences. We respect children by giving them time and space to solve problems, offering materials when they need them, and knowing when to step back and let discovery unfold.

  • Communication

    We believe language and literacy begin with our own voices. Through conversations, poems, songs, storytelling, oral histories, and role-playing, children develop language as a tool for connection and expression. Our Spanish immersion environment supports bilingual development, cognitive growth, and cross-cultural understanding while helping children find their own voices.

We nurture the whole child by creating a healthy, inspiring environment where children can connect with nature, move their bodies, develop independence, and experience the joy of learning. We provide organic, local snacks and thoughtfully consider the materials, products, and environment surrounding children.

Above all, we listen to children. We honor their ideas, fears, and feelings; respect their individual pace; and trust their capacity to explore, take risks, make discoveries, and develop as capable, confident learners.
